After 8 years of preparation Rio de Janeiro is ready for the Olympics. I have visited all the venues during the past week and I can say that they are all ready for the begining of the games.

Below there are 2 pictures showing the Lagoa Rodrigo de Freitas venue.

Most of the games will be held at the Barra Arena in Rio de Janeiro as you can see below. And the Carioca Arena is the biggest one.

50.000 volunteers will be helping during the games. 20% of them come from oversears – from 150 different countries.

Let’s hope that the olympics in Rio de Janeiro turns out to be a great success!

December has just started. Now we have a bit less than 9 months for the start of the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.

Preparation for the games are in full swing at Barra da Tijuca and Deodoro. Some people, including myself, are surprised with the progress taking place at the constructions sites of these Olympic venues.

What has been done in Rio so far:

– 3 Carioca Arenas: 95% complete

– The Future Arena: 100% complete

– The Olympic Aquatics Stadium: 96% complete

– The International Broadcast Center: 100% complete

The Carioca Arena you see above will host 10 sports during the Olympic and Paralympic Games in Rio de Janeiro next year.

Brazilian senators have approved a bill that will exempt visa requirements to all foreigners traveling to Brazil during the period of the Olympic and Paralympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.

More people traveling to Brazil

The idea behind the law is to have more people traveling to Brazil during the games. Tourism Minister Henrique Alves said that it was a victory for the tourism industry. Several states throughout the country will also benefit with it. More destinations unknown to the general public will be discovered and visited for the first time.

Not only the Christ and the Sugarloaf

These are the 2 main and most visited attractions in Brazil: Christ the Redeemer and the Sugarloaf, both located in Rio de Janeiro. The Tourism Ministry intend with this new bill to promote great places and regions that normaly would not attract foreingners, such as the South of Brazil. Santa Catarina and Paraná are 2 beautiful places that are quite often forgoten by the tourists.

With less than a year to go for the Olympics in Rio, more events test are happening in Rio in the coming weeks. Theses events can give organizers a better idea about logistics and security for example.

Sambódromo helding events.

This particular event has just finished (September 15th to 22nd). The Aquece Rio International Archery Challenge took place at the Sambódromo, the traditional home of Rio’s samba Carnival parades, in the Maracanã Zone.

Athlets in Rio de Janeiro.

The event is also a good opportunity for the athlets to compete in Rio de Janeiro ahead of the games.

Team gold medal matches took place over the weekend (September 19th-20th) while individual gold medal competitions happened on September 21st and 22nd. The event was closed to spectators.

The International Olympic Commitee (IOC) was in Rio de Janeiro last week to check Rio’s preparation for the games.

The level of details are huge at the moment and this is one of the Commitees’ main concerns. Ministerial meetings were held to discuss different subjects. You can see more details of the Olympic preparation here.
